Hey all,
just wondering how different the VE commodore engine is to my VS (6 cylinder).
I'm thinking of putting a VE or VZ engine in my VS but not sure on the VE.
The VZ is basically the same as my VS correct?
Cheers
Chris
They share nothing in common.
The Ecotec is a OHV (pushrod) 3.8 litre engine.
The Alloytech is a DOHC 3.6 litre nightmare.

Both were manufactured by HEC. That is all they have in common.

ohk so VZ would be more likely then
VZ is almost the same right?
yeah my engine is starting to struggle and i was going to change the gearbox soon so i just thought maybe a whole new setup
Ecotec is a hardier more simple engine less prone to problems then the later Alloytec, you better off keeping it an ecotec.
ok so a VY seems to be the way to go
does it line up with the same engine mounts and etc?
One would assume you would use the engine mounts and exhaust manifold and inlet manifold and plenum chamber and TB from the VS.
Plus I think there is a pulley that needs to be changed as the air con compressor is not the same type as used in the VS.
ok cheers and it would also be with a new manual gearbox whereas my current one is auto i would have to get the pedal box etc for the vs right
Don't want to be a downer on your idea but if you don't know the differences between the VE and VS mechanics then maybe your better off selling your car and just buying a factory manual VS as there is a fare bit involved in engine / gearbox, swaps / conversions.
Good luck.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
haha yeah i really only know the basics of engines and etc but i wont be doin this by myself i know people that work with cars and have personally had commodores i just want to make the decision on what to do before i go talk to them
Beware, VY engines have the sumps that are a PAIN to work on. Take it from a bloke who's changed a few in-car >_>

yeah but it still is probably the best way to go with a VY
