Default VS Commodore questions-door card removal and rear parcel shelf removal.

    Hi all,

I recently got a 1996 VS Series II Holden Commodore S, which is an excellent car bar one minor fault which is that 3 of the 4 speakers for the stereo don't work. I've tried adjusting the balance etc but no matter what I do the front right hand and both speakers simply do not work, so I've decided to have a look at it myself so I can try and see what's wrong with it. I tried removing the door card today but I didn't seem to be able to get it off, and likewise, I haven't tried removing the rear parcel shelf. Also if I can't get the speakers working, would anybody by any chance have a set of stock speakers they'd be willing to part with cheaply?
The windows are manual and it's the drivers side with the electric mirror controls if that makes any difference.

Where are you getting stuck on the door trim?

To get the parcel shelf out you have to take out the back seat. It's been a while since I had the stock speakers, can you access them if you just take off the speaker grills?

There seems to be something in the middle, towards the top that won't come out. I think I got all the screws around the air vents and the 2 behind the clip off cover just near the mirror control but I still can't get it off.

I've heard that in order to get to the speakers you need to take the parcel shelf out-I'll try getting the speaker grills off and seeing if that helps [my last car needed to take the whole shelf out, either that or just break the clips holding the grills in but this is too nice a car to just "break"]

From memory the grills are pretty easy to pop out and put back, just pop them off and have a look around, you may be able to see if the connections have come loose or something.

If you've definately taken all the screws out just give it a good yank and it should come off. There is a few little clip things down the side and from memory one along the top, which is what might be holding you back.

The clip along the top would probably be it-how hard is it to unclip it, or is it just a case of a good yank?

Dunno about vs but on the vt there is a "U" shaped clip under the winder that can be an absolute prick to get out.

VS Commodore questions-door card removal and rear parcel shelf removal.-trim.jpgThey look like this. Just pull the trim off. The clip may come unstuck from the trim but it can go back in.

    Agreed. For my VB/C/L

I only got around to removing the rear speakers today and I can confirm they can be accessed without removing the entire rear parcel shelf. Much better than my last car...

I'll get my brother to help me get the door card off tomorrow, thank god for a teachers strike!

Thanks for all your assistance though, it's much appreciated.

He mate its a bit late now but if you still havnt managed to get the door trim off you need to take the window winder off and on the lock for the door pull it up and there should be a red bit/clip on it, the little red panel comes out and then you should be able to get it off unlike my dad that broke my lock.

Yeah, I got the door cards off... had to sacrifice a pair of tweezers to get the clip thingy out but who needs to know... New speakers and head unit is all installed and I must say for $150 worth of stuff it sounds pretty darn good.

Cheers anyway for the help though...
