Hey all, my vr p/s pump is buggered n my brother has a brand new 1 for a vs sitting here n i was wondering if u can cut the tubey thing of that the resivour sits on?
Should all be the same I would of thought.....
yeah mate, same motor so the pump should go straight on.what "tubey thing" are you talking about?
I thought there was a few changes between the VR and VS as the reservoir does not sit on the pump on the VS
Ive just fitted 2 new seal kits to two different commodore P/S pumps, ones for a VRV6 and the other is for my VSV6.The pumps are the same and use the same seal kits, but the VR pump has a short pipe sticking out of it that goes up into the reservoir ,the VS just has a hose that joins the pump here instead of the reservoir, and so it doesnt have the short pipe sticking out of the pump body.
This pipe is the only difference between the pumps that I can see.The VS pump has a thread inside its inlet hole for the inlet pipe fitting to screw into, the VR one looks like the short pipe is pressed into the body of the pump,so Im not too sure if it can be removed. The short pipe might even screw into the pump body using the same thread that the pipe fitting uses on the VS ones?
I looked at the price for a P/S pump that had had the seal kit already fitted, and they wanted around $100 for one, pfff, as if Im gonna pay that for one, especially when a seal kit costs $10, and it doesnt take very long to replace them, and its not very hard to do. Just make sure everything is spotlessly clean, and making sure that the new seals are lubricated well with clean P/S fluid/dexron auto trans fluid whilst the pump is being reassembled.
The gregorys workshop manuals have excellent diagrams of these P/S pumps disassembled.
