Hi Guys
I've got a June94 3.8 vr ute an my tranny crapped it's self on the side of the freeway the other day and am after another one. From what i hear weather it's true or not, apparentlly in Sep/Oct thereabouts in 1994 the vr went to a vs tranny, the main difference being the solenoids, one solenoid used for overdrive and lock-up on a 13pin plug and the other had 2 solenoids for the same job with a 14pin plug, the sticker on my tranny has come so i'm not sure what it is. Apparentlly you can swap one way but not the other.
Any help would be appreciated.
James
I think it's 12 pins for the VR and 13 pins for the VS.....I also have heard that around VR/S changeover time, they fitted the 13 pins to the VR....but not whether to believe that.
So, to be sure, if you have 12 pins, only replace with a 12 pin trans.

The model number is stamped on the back drivers side of the 4HDD just above the oil pan...
I replaced my 4HDD with a 5HDD, the 5HDD gearbox worked but was missing the 13th wiring connector on my 93 VR... The box worked O.K but always displayed an Engine warning light and it didn't lock up at highway speeds... I got the shits with the auto's and converted it to manual![]()
ok thanks guys
