VS 1995 DUAL FUEL BACKFIRING ON GAS,my vs has started backfiring on gas has happened a couple of times in the past after driving for say 1 hour turning off car and restarting it will bang once then be ok .last nite I was driving along peacefully all of a sudden bang the engine cut out at stkilda junction, scared the shit out of me,I put it in neutral and rolled to the side of the road.got out had a look under car for any engine/auto parts on ground, all clear, started it up and drove home.Had a look this morning, started it up drove around block then bang again, this is when I knew it was the gas.runs fine on petrol.Does it need aTune up?any other ideas.cheers
Yep take it to the gas shop. Could be tune, Plugs, Leads, Coils
They are the most common things to make a car go bang on LPG. I have a VP commodore on gas and it used to blow the air box without fail once a week. After working through the list above it turned out to be a coil, Replaced it and haven't had an issue since.
start with the base tune plugs leads coils check for vac leaks and split hoses incorrect sealing of mixer any other dislodge hoses or wiring connections
my brothers did the same backfiring on gas only found it was the coils after he replaced spark plug and leads
did you check your airbox ? when gas backfires it usually cracks or blows a hole in your airbox.
Mine did this too, blew a hole in the hose from the engine to the airbox
Fixed my VS ,put new plugs ,leads and middle coil,no difference.Turned out to be crank angle sensor faulty ,affecting advance and retard of distributer, got new senor fitted, runs great now.cheers
