Im using a vs engine/ecu in a conversion and what to retain the bcm rather than bypass as per typical.
At what point does the bcm read the key head? I assume its only at crank...
can anyone confirm or deny
cheeRS
yes on key turn it contacts with the key ring around the lock to disable the alarm/immobilizer so it will start, same as with lock/unlock buttons
So I bascially only need contact while trying to start the engine. once running etc the keyhead contact can be removed.
just confused then as why the contact path on the barrel swings for all positions of the key head? rather than just a start connection
it initially makes connection when turned to on - this is when the immobiliser turns off.
Ive put vs eng/box and complete commodore wiring loom into a mercedes. I want to retain the security features of the key/bcm as Im also using the key button/central locking function... but will have 2 keys as the merc ignition barrel cant be modded to get the reading strip mounted, nor the keys mashed together. Im trying to work out what i need to work, if i need to create "fake" second barrel for the vs key, or just a touch pad for the key head when trying to start it.
If the imob is cut @ 'on' position then it sort of makes the decision pretty clear.
id wire the ring up somewhere with a magnet behind it near the barrel, the keyhead nipple should stick to it then.
