Is there anyway of cleaning a 1/2 shift solenoid that will fix it? I am getting an error of "Code 82 - 1 - 2 Shift Control Solenoid Fault - Auto Transmission Only" and my VS is crunching a little from park to drive and first to second. Just wondering if there is a way to fix this problem for free or if i should just wait until i can afford new solenoids.
have you looked at what they're worth? I think they're like $20-30 for both A and B shift solenoids...
And considering you have to spend at least $120 in fluid and filters just to get to them... you might as well replace them. considering how easy they are to get to.
I've never heard of anyone going to the bother of cleaning a solenoid in an attempt to fix it - usually they go either open or short circuit which you cannot fix. Added to this, you also need a new gasket and 4 litres of DX3 just to reach the solenoid. Finally solenoids only need replacing when they fail and there is little to be gained by replacing all 4 at the same time. They are pretty cheap on Ebay.
You could try disconnecting the electrical connection to the trans and cleaning it although that is a long shot. Reset the ECU as well by disconnecting battery cable for a few minutes.

thanks for the replies guys. I am trying to sell the car atm and was hoping i could of fixed the problem for free, if its going to cost $120 in filters and fluid and $30 for the solenoid i wont even worry about it.
sell the car like that and you won't get squat for it... I'd spend the money to make the money if i were you... otherwise, as soon as someone test drives your car... they will feel the crunching... and assume a $2000 transmission replacement is required.... that equals no sale!![]()
Ha! it's only a shift solenoid... not banana skins in the diff! :P
Pain to all those who do dodgy tricks to sell a car!
i get your point but im only asking for $1500 so i really don't feel like putting a few hundred into it to not get anymore back.
What I'd do is disconnect the battery for 30 secs to erase the code and then reconnect. The code will not come back till the solenoid fails again as usually they are intermittent at first. This way you may get lucky and it will not show up while you are trying to sell the car. If you want to play it straight just mention to the buyer that it did show a fault code but it went away. For $1500 I'd expect a few surprises.
