Hey guy, I'm thinking about hollowing out my cat converter and was wondering if the exhaust note would change, whether I get more flow or do the Buick v6 need the back pressure from the cat...
NO HATERS cheers
When I did this to my old VN 5L it sounded more tinny I thought
Assuming your ride is otherwise fairly stock just leave it as it is. Apart from stating the obvious legalities of what you're proposing, it'll sound horrid and very raspy with a v6. If you're really trying to chase every last KW then fit a higher flowing legal cat, say 300cspi with a free-flowing system.

I done this to my old vn ss once and didnt think it really made any difference at all?
Anyone else find this?
The highflow cat ive got on my vr ss does make a difference tho.
Yeah run the risk of a 5 grand fine for a 1kw gain....![]()

Could run twin cats but not worth the expense , as suggested get a higher flow cat end of the day its only a 6
it will make it sound worse.... very tinny...
Even high flow cats make it sound bad unfortunately. It's only a 6

not worth it, my vr v6 sounded shocking with a hollowed out cat..
At Summernats this year we did it to a car (not saying who it is or what car), But I can say it was a LS1, Anyway, got it dyno'd, that night gutted the cats (were going to replace them soon after with highflows), immediately it sounded tinnier, then took it back to the dyno and it was 5hp down...
Done this to my vy v6 sounds decent enough and dynod well
My exhaust sounded shocking and it was due to the cat being hollowed out.... I replaced it with a new one and its sounded better.
Don't bother.....
Doesnt sound too bad on a 5L if it has good mufflers, but any v6 sound terrible with emptied cats.
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

my vp v6 sound horrible with a gutted cat, even being manual it still sounded shit, i put a stock cat on it and it sounded much better.
If you're not driving a manual, you are only steering, not driving
