Hey guys.
Been reading up on the 2 hole mod for the vz and some threads about doing it on the vy and all have said they have felt a difference in performance. I assumed that a similar thing could be done with the vs but I did a search and found nothing. Decided to try some stuff out and ended up doing my own sort of version for the vs airbox. Using a hole saw I cut out a section of the box on the opposite end and ran a pipe behind the headlight were I thought it would get the maximum amount of air. Sprayed the pipe black and job done.
Results:
There is a differnate increase in induction noise as it seemed to have an increase in throttle response and it seems to build revs quicker from 2000-3500rpm
There not differnate power gains but the car does feel a bit more responsive. Once I give it a good service I'll see how it goes but I'm pretty happy with it.
Cheers
Sounds good mate do you have any pics?
Can take a few and post em up today
i too would like to see what you have done =D
Lol ive never uploaded photos....how do i do it?
Did you have any other type of CAI on the car before hand? IE: OTR or mace. Be interested to know the difference.

nah mate just a k&n panel filter in the airbox. Is there much of a noticable difference in the OTR? i read the info on mace site and its says there system draws air from behind the headlight, thats were i got the idea from
There was when i did it. Its the stock OTR from the L67. Id much prefer the mace one.

Yeah. When i 1st bought the car there was a pod on it made alot of induction and seemed to be sucking in alot of air from the engine bay. Changed it up straight away. I reckon pods on commodores are lame as lol unless used in something like the mace system or growler.
Ive heard of a 3 hole mod???
Anyone no anything about it??
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
There was a thread on Street Commodores Forum regarding cutting a hole in the cold air box it helps to improve the responsiveness of the engine when accelerating. Not sure about the science behind it.
It also said it did not increase power output of the engine though.
I am not sure you need a growler or a pod to achieve the same effect.
I have an OEM Super 6 CAI and I just cut out a 3" dia hole to right of the snorkel inlet in the cold air box. Definite improvement to the throttle response.
Sucking cold air from behind the headlight seems to pretty close to the air temperature on the outside of the car when moving. I measured this by using a simple fridge magnet thermometer.
I taped it to the air box behind the headlight and took a temperature reading in the engine bay. Later I placed the magnet thermometer on the outside on the bonnet edge in front of cold air box and took a reading. I drove the car in the same direction for the same distance and took readings about 5 mins apart.
The reading outside the car was about 4 deg Celsius cooler than the cold air box reading inside the engine bay behind the headlight. Close enough for me.

I'll defernatly think about the super 6 otr in future. Its fairly cheap ay? Yeah it differnatly doesnt increase power but is more responsive. My mate has a VZ with a the pod type growler which draws air from behind headlight also. There is Massive increase in throttle response from 3000rpm onwards. The only way to describe it is similar to a v-tech. It just hit 3000 and revs alot faster.
