hey guys quick question my uncle has a vs commy with 225/50/r16 wheels can he put wider tires on them?
What width are the rims?
not sure there are no markings of the size and width on the wheels :/
They would have to be either 6" or 7" wide. If they are 6" I wouldn't put any wider tyres on. If they are 7" then you probably could go a little wider. My rims are 8" wide and I run 235 width tyres. When I had 6" rims I ran 205s, and I think 7" usually run 225s.
would the width etc be set out like the tire size on the wheel?
It should be stamped into the rim somwhere

With that size tyre I would guess at a 16x7 rim.
TBH i would look at moving up to a 17x8 rim with 235/45-17 tyres.
You will find that 16" tyres can be quite dear and the range of sizes a bit limited as not all manufactures cover all sizes.
Wider than a 225 on a 7" rim is starting to get a bit on the fat side. Remember that a wider tyre with the same aspect ratio will also have a larger diameter, thus affecting the speedo accuracy.
