hi there I HAVE A 3.8 ECOTEC VS AND THE MOTER HAS DEVELOPED A BOTTOM END KNOCK GOTTA GET ANOTHER ENGING JUST WONDERING IF A 3.8 SUPERCHARGED WILL BOLTR STRAIGHT IN USING THE ORIGINAL ECU ETC OR SHOULD I JUST STICK WITH THE FACTORY DONK??
My friend bolted l67 supercharger to his stock 3.8 running the standard ECU and it doesn't go to well at all...
So no, u need the ecu and, from what he was saying also the BCM too, or something... The L67 ain't much chop anyways so just stick with the stock engine. Less issues and you will be on the road sooner.
You can pick up a 3.8 engine for a couple of hundred bucks so just go with that....
The BCM should have nothing to do with the engine... in fact, I'm pretty sure it doesn't... that's why its the "BODY control module".
As for the ECU, i believe you can just get a different memcal. Anyone else confirm??
all good will go with standard and maybe just get a re written ecu if there worth having ?? any one had any experiance with trade me ones ??
and cheers for the quick reply
Stock engine, from somewhere with a warranty, will cost you about $400 for a stock one. Generally a wrecker will do this. To go the L67 your looking at about a grand. You can do it, youll just need to spend about $100 to get the L67 memcal. Im pretty sure delco lives in NZ so hell be closer to you for the memcal.

In New Zealand you will be behind the 8 ball even sourcing a good stock motor let alone a supercharged one so you may find you have to stick to the stock Ecotec. I've got a brother in NZ and gets me to source all his parts for his Patrol...usually they are less than half in Aus.

You will need to upgrade other parts as well eg transmission.
Do your your homework, not as straight forward as its seems without careful planning.
