need help with my vs 5L.. the other day i was on the highway and it started surging/spluttering, seems to be worse on a steady throttle, give it more than say 1/3 throttle and it clears itself up and runs normal with as much power as it should have but when i pulled up to suss it out it died as soon as i let off the gas, no rough idling just pretty well conked straight out, its pretty rough below about 1500 rpm, above that its smoother but still missing/popping etc.
got home and pulled the plugs and the ones on the drivers side bank are fouled from excess fuel. are these motors a batch fire injector setup (firing one bank at a time) or do they fire all 8 injectors at once?
i replaced plugs, leads, coil. coil made a little bit of difference but not much. rotor cap + button is near new and in good nick, O2 sensor is near new. error code check showed nothing, i checked/cleaned the connections at the ecu and dfi module, earths are tight and seem to be working ok.. any ideas guys?
My V6 was doing this. I had manifold leaks, bad fuel pressure and a fuel leak at the rails. It had a few more problems but i think that was the cause for the problem.
VR and VS error codes:

They fire all at once.. It could be a leaking injector or the spark just isnt trong enough so it could be a coil issue.
You can bench test injectors pretty easy so give that a go and see if they are dripping....
Dizzy could almost assure it. Mine did exactly the same thing.
Except it got worse and sometimes would take forever to start....
Just couple of peices of advice:
1. It's a f...... Nightmare but u could do it urself
2. I took my bonnet and fan off and an adjustable 14mm and 9/16 ratchet spanner
3. Don't do my mistake MARK ROTOR BUTTON, dizzy to engine body against the line and don't undo the spark leads.... Anyway that's me mr. Rush and franky f up
U got nothing to lose just try it out it helped me
Good luck bud
I don't understand how your problem could be the distributor if you are only having the problem on one engine bank.
Ok let's go back to wat he said originally.....
He opened the all the spark plugs on the drivers side and found em fouled/flooded which means ignition problem ie. Spark.
Check for resistance at the coil pack between the two wires can't member wat they meant to be....
Most likely it's the dizzy those coil packs just shit themselves when they're working there working when there not they just don't
Sorry forgot to add they have a firing order which evens the load on each bank
Ps. I might add to how much I'm lazy never checked or changed the leads on the driver bank I got the worlds biggest hands so just don't go there
quick update, i had a bloke check it over with an oscilliscope today, turned out that the spark was fine (it would damn well want to be after replacing the whole frikkin ignition system) but it was holding the injectors open for longer than what it should have been. swapping the MAP sensor seemed to fix that even though it never had an error code for it.
it also had a dud valvespring on no 8 exhaust valve which wouldnt have helped any
