    Default VR V8 overheating

Having a bit of an overheating issue. Was driving today and cruising it the whole time with about 20ish degree weather and the temp was sitting over half. On a day a little too hot it will creep up a fair way. I have changed the thermostat and new water pump and radiator seems okay doesn't leak or anything.

Wondering if there is anything else to check or fix?

I am due to change my inlet manifold gasket, rocker cover gaskets and extractor gaskets but could this have anything to do with overheating ?

Any help would be great because I really need to work out the problem otherwise I'll be screwed this summer. Didn't drive it hardly last summer so wasn't so bad.

Hi mate, I would diffenantly pull the radaitor out and have it stripped and cleaned. I lost track of how many radiators we've had checked that where not leaking, looked fine but where 50-70% blocked. Usually cost about $150. That doesn't include pulling it out etc.

Are you thermo fans working at all mate? Next time your car is running hot just pop the bonnet and have a look to see if they have turned on... Its an easy fix if they have stopped working...

I might have to strip the radiator when I'm doing my gaskets.

    Just to make sure:

    THERMOSTATIC CLUTCH TEST
    1. Drive vehicle to achieve normal operating temperature.
    2. Stop vehicle and run engine at approximately 2000 rpm.
    3. Listen for fan engaging (indicated by fan noise or 'roar') when engine is hot. When temperature has been reduced sufficiently, fan clutch should disengage - indicated by a drop in fan noise.
    4. If fan is continuously engaged or disengaged, replace thermostatic clutch.

Could of installed the thermostat upside down (not sure if you can ) or its a dodgy one. If its stuck open they can still overheat a car as the water passing through doesn't get trapped in the radiator long enough to cool down and then circulate through the block.

sound like thermo fan rooted. Should be really tight when cold and attempted to turn by hand. If its loose and can be easily spun by ur finger then it is rooted. It can be spun by 1 finger if its ok, ut it is very tight and has no over=run when you stop spinning it.

Thermostat is fine tested a few times before putting it in and made sure it was right way round.

I'll check the thermo fan in the morning and see how I go. If it is messed, how do I go about fixing it ?
