I'm trying to figure out how to wire up the stato rear courtesy lights (where the grab handles are) in a Exec with a low series BCM.
It looks like the power source can just be taken from the front courtesy light, but there are another 2 wires which need to be accounted for, I believe one of them is just an earth to the body. How about the other wire? Factory wiring diagram shows it to be wired back to the BCM (could even splice it in with the wire running from the keylight to the BCM)
Is there an alternative/easier way to wire it up, or should I be trying to match it as closely to the factory wiring diagram as possible?
Wire them to your door light switches, one to direct power and one to ground. This will mean you have the option for off, on or on when door opens.
VR and VS error codes:
VS V8 DTC/Error codes comprehensive list.
VS V6 DTC/Error codes comprehensive list.
Thanks i'll give that a go.
In my last Commodore i had, i connected them to the 2 wires on the interior light. Found it easy enough to do and they come on when any door was open and still had the over ride switch as well.
Bit of a bump, I finally got around to wiring the Statesman Rear grab handles up.
I connected the orange/black wire pf the rear map light to the positive wire of the dome light loom (spliced in), and did the same for the black wire to the negative wire of the dome light loom (also spliced in). That only got the lights working when the dome light was on (when a door is opened, or if the dome light is switched on manually)
There is another wire on the rear map lights, which are white in a VQ, and white/green in a VR/VS, you want to extend these wires, join them together at some point, then run the end of the single wire to a constant earth. I chose a screw hole for the dome light housing (Pick a different hole to the one where the front map lights earth to)
So now the rear map/courtesy lights come on when the dome light is activated, and can be switched on independently too.
If you want me to explain anything in further detail, let me know.
