are you trying to say when you go to near or to full lock with the steering wheel?
or just when you slightly turn it right?
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

Before you go replacing the pump etc, get some rubber grease or WD40 and spray it down the grommet where the steering column meets the firewall, spray from the inside, turn the wheel a couple of times and spray again so it gets in there.

Fixed the issue for me .

As above the gromet is most likely, but worn out sway bar link pin bushes can also make a groaning noise.

Yeah,Ive fixed this problem in a few peoples VS's now. When I first got my VS, it was moaning and groaning badly when the steering wheel was turned, I was told by a couple of different "so-called" mechanics that the P/S pump was on its last legs, or that the rack could need replacing or both. I then read on here about the rubber bush where the steering column passes through the firewall into the engine bay, and that spraying WD40 up in there from the engine bay side will stop the moaning groaning sounds. Well, that was a few years ago now, and the noise has never come back, the steering is still heaps quiet, and as I said at the start of the post, Ive made a few other VS owners very happy by fixing this noise as quickly and as easily as this for them. Some of these people were told the same thing by mechanics, that the P/S pump was stuffed etc etc. Thank god for JC, it saved me from spending cash on stuff that didnt even need replacing. Another thing is the moaning groaning sound thats made, it really does sound like a failing P/S pump, and I can see why people would think it was the P/S pump making the noise, I really didnt think a bush could make this kind of noise, but it definitely can..So if your steering in your VS is moaning and groaning when the steering wheel is turned, hit this bush with WD40 or similar first up before looking anywhere else.

I used WD40/CRC and it fixed it for a while, but the noise came back. I was then told to use CRC silicone spray, its been 4 years and its still quiet.

I've been putting up with my steering moaning and groaning for a few months now. I just packed the rubber grommet that the steering column passes thru and i worked a treat, now its so quiet, just like a a brand new one. Thanks heaps Just Commodores and thanks also to the people that post in these forums.
