Hey guys, just put new extractors on my VR Calais. In order to do this i had to unbolt the drivers side engine mount, drop the p/steering rack and jack the engine up about 4 inches.
The problem now is i cant get the engine mount bolts to line up in the hole :/
Last time i did this it dropped straight back in. Im hoping i havent bent anything.
Any suggestions ?
Cheers,
Jake
Yeah they can be a bit tricky... What are you lifting the engine up and down with? And what way does the engine need to go in order to line up with the mounts? Forward or back?
With a Hydraulic Trolley Jack and block of wood under the sump.
The bolts are about 10mm to the left of the hole ( looking in from the engine bay ) The bolts are resting against the metal plate.
Is there any way you can get a scissor jack and use vertically against the rad support and engine or firewall and engine or something so it forces it back?
And make sure the other banks extractor isn't fouling on anything.....
the only way you will get it in with both mounts tight on the engine is pry the mount over with a big screwdriver.you really need to undo the alloy mount ooff the block on the passenger side slide in the mount that doesnt fit then rebolt the alloy mount back on
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Use two screwdrivers with the engine sitting down on the mount pads , both sets of mount studs should be sitting on the mount pads not one on and one off as this will make it harder to fit oneside over the other , poke the first screwdriver thru the front mount hole and the second one to lever off the first screwdriver and the rear engine mount stud lever it towards the hole once in the hole repeat again on the other engine mount once one of each stud is in a hole then work the front studs into the holes and fit the nuts and do up . Requires some practice to make this work and no undoing of the alloy mounts is required .
Thanks guys, I managed to get her in.
I loosened the passenger side engine mount and jacked the engine up until the jack was holding the engines weight.
I loosened the bracket holding the engine mount on the drivers side, and gave it a bit of a love tap with the old iron fencing post.
Slid straight in. I now have this knowledge for future shinanigans
Cheers,
Jake.
