hold the belt the right way up (as it would be bolted in), pull it out all the way and tie a knot in in if you dont want them to retract.

Installing them is easy enough, just unbolt the old ones and swap the new ones in. Make sure the bolts you put your new ones in with are the correct ones, they will either be 7/16" UNF or M10x1.25 (metric fine) - using the wrong bolts will wreck the threads.

you can let the belts retract all the way when you take them out of another car
there's a little ball on the side which has to be on the right angle to push a little
clip out of the way which will then let you extract them. its easy to see how!
sitting them in the brackets will do it. might have to jiggle it, the ball could get stuck.
dont try sedan belts in the rear. they dont work in wagons but make nice tow rope.

one of my brackets was a bit out of place and i had to spend awhile straighten it so the belt
would sit in properly and extract.
