Hey guys
This morning I was driving up to my Girlfriends house and everything was fine, then when moving away from the lights, it started missing bad any time i went near the accelerator it started going pop pop pop pop and moved very slow don't matter what gear it is in it worst at 2000-3500 rpm and revs up very slowly. But now that I got to her place even on idle sounds rough and makes loud popping noises from the exhaust. Almost sounds like a rotary, I am worried to try and drive it home.
What could it be?
Any help would be appreciated.
If it's on gas, I'd get the gas checked out. Dad had his car on gas, was idling like crap.. put your foot down and 'bang' and stalled, got it checked out and its good as new.... so if it's on gas. get it checked out..
If not.. not sure
Petrol only, just noticed upon reving it, it is blowing a lot of black smoke
Id first change the spark plugs and the sparkplug leads, see how that goes, and if it still runs crook, check the ECU error codes to see if any errors have been detected by the ECU. If you are not sure how to do the error check test, then look at the post in the link below, this shows in detail how to do the error check test. Faulty ignition coils can cause misfiring etc, these 3 ignition coils on the V6 can be faulty and cause similar problems to what you have described, and its pretty common for them to just pack it in like that all of a sudden. The DFI module which is what the 3 ignition coils sit on, can also get corroded pins in its wiring connector ,which can cause running problems etc. The wiring connector has a small bolt holding it into the DFI module. And the CAS (Crank Angle Sensor), this can become faulty and cause misfiring etc, and its also a common part to fail once its a few years old. Id try to stick to buying genuine holden replacement coils as they run better and will last a lot longer too. Ive seen too many cheap ones fail early, so they are a false economy, also consider a genuine holden CAS, especially if you cant fit it yourself and have to pay a mechanic. At least most genuine holden parts will last for a few years. I know a guy who has been through 3 cheapo brand CAS's to my one new geniune one. I paid $120 for my genuine one, he paid around $40 - $50 each plus fitting etc, so it works out dearer in the long run.

thanks for the info
I have replaced the Plugs a few months ago but not the leads, I have a new CAS that I bought for my VR so I may fit that to the VS and do the Leads, if it is the coil pack and/or dfi module what are they worth to replace?
removed spark plug leads, 6 and 2 seemed to make no change and spark didn't jump off the coil, how ever after removing the plug lead next to 6 spark did arch across both contacts but it seemed weak.
Would this be the DFI Module?
sounds like the coil or dfi, do you have a spare coil pack at all? if so swap it over, i had the same problem after a washed me engine (didn't get any water on it was wrapped up nice in plastic and didn't aim hose there)
if its the CAS there only 45 bucks on ebay for genuine ones delivered as i got one the other day and works fine(but doesnt sound like you CAS)
I don't have a spare to test, called a wrecker and can get the DFI and Coils for $80 I think I will give that a try if it fixes it up. I will then replace them with a new DFI and Coils in the coming months.
