    Default AAH! hose explosion help!

Just went out and started the car, was idling for maybe 4 mins while i fiddled with the stereo and bang! smoke came out of the car and green fluid started pouring out everywhere. few spiders got the F*@& out of there, and when i popped the bonnet the main hose coming out from the front of the engine (just under the cover) going to the radiator i think, was not attached. what happened, why and how do i fix it? thanks

hose was either lose and fell off or was a bit old and split. take off the engine cover and have a look.
could be as simple as reattaching the hose with the clamp. might need a new hose and/or clamp. either way
it nothing serious and very cheap.

I had something similar on my vp, the radiator was old and the plastic corroded, the top inlet broke off and spewed coolant everywhere. It was night so I didn't know the extent of the problem. Managed to fix it up enough to limp home, then it went again in my driveway whilst I was standing in front out the car. Quick trip to the ER for the burns and a new radiator from ebay later, problem solved.

If the inlet at the top looks fine, re attach the house and tighten the clamp up properly, (not over tight else you can crush the inlet) and carry some spare water jic, otherwise if the inlet is busted, new radiator.

If it is broken, replace. Also, check to make sure there are no remnants left in the pipe for obvious reasons :-)

It came off at the radiator end? A sticky thermostat can cause it build pressure and pop the hose off. Put it back on, tighten the clamp, top up with coolant, let idle for a bit and top the expansion tank up. Monitor the temperature the next time you drive it. If it seems to get hotter than usual, then you may have to change the thermostat.
