Go down to your local car stereo shop and listen for yourself. Unless you like 50 different peoples opposing opinions. When your satisfied feel free to come back and ask others for their experiences. Saves a lot of head ache this way.

As above. Have a listen but its hard to get a accurate idea in a shop. Totally different environment. You will also not be hearing them though your set up. Its really a bit hit and miss. Generally the rule of thumb is the more you pay the better you get up to a point where the law of diminishing returns sets it. And once you start looking around at the top of the range type speakers you need to have the rest of your kit up to the task to realise their full potential.
Generally the mid range of most reputably manufacturer will give you pretty good result and the best value. There are bargains out there. JayCar have some decent “no name” speakers but I don’t know whether they would be “better” than what you have.
Check out some magazines as well to help get a feel for what is around.
