Ok so its 1:40 am and i had one of those what i thoughts.....
what would actually happen if i was doing say 40km in an auto and pulled handbrake to get it sideways then dropped it then started accelerating again?
would it damage my gear box? or am i all sweet
Dont do it.. Plain and simple. When ripping the handbrake up at that speed will cause your headunit to blow up causing a chain reaction to your NOS float valve thus causing to much horsepower and snapping an front guard bolt.

Ouch!!!...
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
Hypothetically, Na no damage to your auto, same effect as putting on you regular brakes I'd imagine
Realistically, dont do it, its just a dumb thing to do.
Do it at speed, 40km is baby stuff.. Try at least 150+km and in the wet works best Im told...
You wont stuff your gearbox but will more then likely obtain an award only special drivers receive...
Its called "The Darwin Award"
Good luck....
Bro you ask some dumb shit. Do yourself and those of the gold coast (several of my family members included) a friggin favour and do a defensive driving course or something similar, a track day or some shit where you can try all your stupid ideas out and not get anyone killed in the process and actually learn what you can and can't do. God help people like you if you ever cross my path on the road.

I need some statesman/ calais woodgrain for drivers side panel!!
If you are going to do it, poke your tongue out a bit, and bite down on it, but not too hard (you dont want to bite it off).
Screw your face up and squint your eyes.
It's my version of a race face
I reckon your a just a ########, why don't you just drive your car into a wall at 120km, at least your gearbox will survive.

Pulling handbrakers wont hurt anything, except eventually wear out the handbrake shoes and the rear tyres. I was cuttin loose the other week doing them, probably doing them at 40 k's or so, Ive had my two young blokes doing them down in the paddock, Ive got them both learning how to control slides etc properly, as they are both on their L's and are going for their P's soon. I reckon every learner driver should learn this kind of driving and learn how a car behaves and how it feels when it goes into a slide etc...
thanks brettjjj and no thanks tp u dicks that can answer something nice im asking this shit so i dont do stupid shit and wreck my car cuz my ######## mate decides to pull my handbrake up alot. go get a life aye i came here to ask questions about my car here is a question stop critisizing me for it.
In all honesty it's a bad idea.
Simply because of the way the VS handbrake works. You could end up overstretching the cable and have it snap. Unless you tighten the absolute #### out of it, it isnt going to do much.
If you really wanted to get the car unsettled going into a corner, you could manually shift back into first and wait for the compression lock to lock the back wheels, then shift back to drive and power out of the corner. Or put it into park after it slides into a tree. I dunno.

As it stands it sounds like you plan on driving around rippin' handbrakies 2F2F style.
This isn't tokyo drift, factory handbrakes are not designed to be engaged at speed.
Likelihood of damaging something, including yourself, doing this is high.
You do see the irony of that post right?
Would this damage my car?
Can't wait to see what your next thread is about.

What is it with this bloke and asking stupid questions about doing skids and getting side ways and will it affect his gear box, if you think twice about it and then make a thread for it don't do it. plain and simple, if you want to wreck your car into a pole, or god forbid hit another driver then you can do stuff like this whenever and where ever you want.
If your doing it on ur farm or what ever then go for it, wont really hurt much as long as you don't flip it and end up stuck upside down with a broken neck or something.
Just buy a v8 and you can go sideways all day long.

when you try it if your handbrake dosent work as planned eg dosent fully lock, i guarrantee you will hit something, when you do it the car tends to go wherever the #### it feels like if the handbrake isnt strong enough. buy a ford and find a paddock if you want to trash a car its not a good idea in your regular car.
Best thing I ever did was go to Drift School and a few other courses.
Helped me learn and understand a lot more about car control and was a fun process.
Thanks to them courses I am quite capable of quite a few fun things.
But will never do them on public roads.
