    Default Upgrading Brakes

    Hi,

I would like to know if I can do a straight upgrade from my VS brakes to VT brakes front and rear... also the master cylinder?? is there anything else that i need to consider... I am wanting to get bigger brakes with twin piston calipers..

    Thanks
    Daz

I would investigate other options before you dive into VT brakes, such as VE.

What is it you need from the brakes?
    Towing?
    Track work?
    Spirited driving?
    Street cred?

As above, it's a little more than just bolting on calipers.

go the VE upgrade, its so much better and you dont have to replace your master cylinder and brake booster

VT Brakes are ####ing shit on earlier commodores imo, you get so much caliper flex its a joke and they arent a 'performance' caliper anyway. Most people find such a difference more than likely due to the fact that the brakes they are replacing were probably stuffed!

If you want to upgrade your brakes, start off by fitting a good quality set of pads and ensure all your brake components are in 100% working order. (Brake lines, fluid, rotors, calipers, master cyl etc.. )

If you want more then look at getting a vn group a / sv5000 front brake setup which is a much much much better system for close to the same coin. Racebrakes do a full kit.

You can also fit R33 brakes which also kill vt's.

Your talking about the 4pots with 315mm rotors? I can asure you they are a good brake as i had them on one of my earlier of earlier VSs. However, same amount of parts are needed. Id much prefer the VT twin pot to the VS single pot.
My VS sedan has all new rotors (standard replacement), pads (Bendix general) and calipers (rebuilt). It still doesnt pull up as good as a VT wagon that had shitty pads.

The $500 needed for the VT big brake conversion for a VS is a good price considering the the rotors are lets say around $150 each depending where you go, caliper re built ill say $150 for the pair, then say bendix pads say about $50. Thats $500 right there. And you also get the caliper adapter, new hoses and the hub shim too.

If your like me and grabbed the brakes of the VT when being wrecked, itll be cheaper again.

When going VT brakes, the master cylinder needs to be changed as well because the VT calipers displace more fluid and the pedal will have a longer travel and feel soft.

The VE upgrade is just a rotor and caliper swap, no need to change the master cylinder or booster.

    Absolutely
VT master is 1 inch with a 1 1/8 fast fill chamber.
VS master is 7/8 inch with 1 1/16 fast fill chamber.

As the larger mater is required, you need a more powerful booster to overcome the larger diameter master. Without the larger booster you are really spending money and going nowhere.
