New to forum and just bought a 96 VS Calais that needs some work so hunted down the best forum and looks like I've parked at the right place
It's come with the V6 but has a bottom end bearing problem so I'm thinking instead of getting that fixed, why not change it to the 5ltr V8. Besides the gearbox, what else would have to be upgraded? Can the computer just be flashed or need to be replaced?
Cheers
Pretty easy conversion actually.
You will need a K frame for the v8 and and wiring harness to suit plus the exhaust all can be bought pretty cheap from a wreckers or even on here..
I think there is a guy selling a v8 conversion on hr at the moment.
The ECU by rights should be a v8 ecu but I stumbled across a post a few days ago where a guy is running a v6 ecu with no issues? Not sure if he's telling porkie pies or not.
oh god i done 2 conversions now umm, k frame, gbox, engine loom, tailshaft, v8 exhaust, that all i can remember top of my head but its straight forward
If Barbie's so popular, why do you have to buy all her friends?
Sounds pretty straight forward than. Thanks guys. Got my curiosity going on the ECU though. Never heard of that happening before as there's 2 extra injectors to control. Anyone else ever come across this?
You need a VS v8 computer, they are different. Earlier ECU wont talk to the anti-theft module.
Lol i mis-read your post at first, "gbox", i thought, why the hell do you need to change the glovebox, but you mean gear box.
I am planning the same conversion for my VS, but instead of looking for individual parts i am trying to pick up a cheap V8 in the whole car. that way I will have all parts at my disposal.
You would also need to upgrade the brakes. Correct?
I have also heard that the instrument cluster needs to be changed too?
