    Default Commodre ageing

    Gday everyone.

My VS wagon has done 242000kms now.

Its been serviced every 10000kms as with the automatic being done every 20-30000kms.

It has a new radiator with new piping.

    Suspension is stable.

I am just wondering what major things may need to be done soon to prevent any damage from occuring?

Start with the front bumper cover - buy a new one and replace it. Then go to the back bumper cover. Buy a new one and replace it. Then buy new bits of all the stuff in-between and replace it. It's an old car - real lottery as to what breaks and when.

You are doing exactly what needs to be done to reduce the chance of future breakdowns. You should get at least 400,000km before the engine starts burning too much oil. The transmission may last the distance - usually they fail under 200,000km and some do, some don't so there is really nothing you can do to prevent or anticipate this happening. If you are not the first owner the transmission may well have been replaced already.
    Good Luck.

Dont flog it, keep it serviced and thats about all you can do, one thing i learnt, dont replace anything unless its broken, its just a waiste of money. It is an old car so you can expect to replace bits and pieces when they do go. But there pretty strong and will go forever

Mines on its second transmission and has done 240000 but it runs perfectly, doesn't burn or leak oil, and apart from replacing the transmission and other things tht die on any car at random times eg fuel pump, alternator, water pump, it has never given me any problems in nearly 9 years, just look after it and keep it well serviced, regular cleaning will prolong it's life aesthetically.
