    Angry exhaust blues

hey guys. i have discovered i nice hole from rust in my exhaust right were it exits the muffler and starts to bend up over the diff.
i was thinking of just repairing it my self by cutting out the rust and welding in a patch but i also noticed that the welds around the muffler exit are leaking as well. so i want to get some advice on whether or not i should do the patch my self and also try and seal up the muffler joint or take it into an exhaust shop and get them to repair it for me.
If i do take it to a shop what price am i looking at for them to fix it. they will probably want to replace the entire rusted section from muffler exit up to the top of the diff...

    Cheers for any help.
    Luke

EDIT: after a closer inspection the pipe is rusted up to the joint with the u bolt and back to the muffler. so i am thinking of just getting the hop to replace this part which will also reseal the muffler as thats were it is welded on.
    Heres some pics to help.

but the rest of the exhaust is fine, and if it's only gonna cost me around $80 for them to weld on a new pipe then thats fine.
As much as i would love to do a new exhaust i dont wanna spend to much on this car as im hoping to upgrade next year.

replacement is your best choice as trying to weld a patch over the pipe work is very hard due to the thickness and condition of the rusted out pipe work and seeing how bad the pipe work is only makes me think the rest of the system is on its way out soon too .

Good luck trying to weld a rusty exhaust pipe.
You would have more luck trying not to get burnt while chain smoking at a petrol station.

Yea i decided against welding in a patch when i realised how bad it was, only thought it was the hole that was rusted not the whole pipe.
Im definatly gonna replace the whole pipe but im just trying to figure out a price to get it fixed, will give a few shops a call tomoro and get a couple quotes.

i already got a lukey 2.5 sports exhaust on it which is why i would rather get this one fixed rather then buy a new one. but if i some how come into some money over the next few weeks then it will definatly be on the list to upgrade.

Righto im gonna buy a new exhaust
Red back or Lukey both same price just different brands. do they sound the same?? Also do i need anything else like a gasket to go between the cat and exhaust or is that provided??
I have a Lukey on it at the moment and it sounded good, probably would of sounded better without the hole in it since i bought it. but i have heard some really nice redbacks. at the moment im leaning towards another Lukey, cause they all sound good and my name is Luke. lol

For what it's worth, I can do a Manta system for the ute for $245 without a rear resonator or $290 with a resonator. Prices are shipped and include the clamp and gasket.

Take it to an exhaust shop and get them to gas weld a bit of tin over the rusted bit. The seam is always going to rust thru like that, but it doesnt take much to stick a quick patch over it to keep the car on the road.

I wouldnt replace the whole system if you are selling the car next year, its money you will never make back off it.

A patch gas welded in is still a sweet repair man, dont go thinking its dodgey or somehow a lazy repair - I do them all the time at work
