Hi again i have been doing some reading on vr engine swaps as my 4runner has a vr motor with a original toyota manual box, The page i found was this one
Conversions - V6
This is a paragraph from it "If you are going to buy an engine only (as in a manual 4WD application), VN and VP engine packages are very simply, and can be used in automatic and manual situations without any major issues. If you are going to buy a VR V6 or later, it will need to have a manual ECM and engine harness. If you don't, you WILL have problems. VR's were the first to use an electronic transmission, as stated above, so the engine harness also includes a transmission harness. If this harness and PCM is used but not connected to a transmission, the PCM will think there is something severely wrong with the trans (because it isn't there), and a multitude of Malfunction codes will be set. When a code is set an ECM/PCM, the ECM/PCM will revert to "limp home mode", meaning that only basic programmed functions will be used, until the codes are repaired/removed."
Now after reading that i know my 4runner uses a auto ecu (bffK) and motor from a vr, yet my original 4 runner 5 speed remains? so does this mean my ecu will have constant errors and will be in limp home mode? i have had the car for 3 years and theres been no real issues relating to the motor or performance i am just curious as i have started to enjoy working on the car.
Im also planning on getting a memcal with no security no vats and was wondering if this may present new issues?
I'm running a VN 5L & 5 speedin a VS with VR auto computer and VR BCM. The check engine light is always on, but doesnt go into limp mode, it runs sweet as ever.
My understanding of LHM when the transmission fails is that the ECU will run the trans only in LHM....so engine parameters are not affected.
I know that if the camshaft position sensor signal is missing, the ECU will use default values and same for oxygen sensors, but neither of these will cause the car to go into LHM.
So I'd reckon it has no effect on engine performance.
