Hey everyone, how are ya's?
I got my extractors and exhaust fitted up today and when i got it home i noticed a burning rubber smell, so i popped the bonnet and when looking around and one of the spark plug leads was sitting on one of the pipes and had melted a little on the end that goes over the plug. So im thinking that im gonna have to get some of those heat resistant leads with the metal sleeves over them, as a bit of a quick "bush mechanic fix" i thought maybe some aluminium foil wrapped around the end of the lead might stop it form melting anymore so i can get to the shop and buy a lead. My question is, is the aluminium foil a bad idea lol and is a new lead with a metal sleeve the way to go or is there a better way to go about it? Cheers
Foil would possibly become conductive if making contact with an exposed core. Wrap in electrical tape or use something to hold them out of the way.
A tin can slit down the side might be better as it will not conduct heat as well as the alfoil. Unless the lead is shorting, I'd just get a metal cover....get 6 as they all should have one.

Thanks for your replies guys, as far as i know it hasnt melted down to the core so the foil shouldnt short out on anything. The tin can is a heaps better idea though i think ill do that instead, its only to get me to the shops first thing in the morning so i can buy some of those heat resistant ones. Is it worth getting some of that heat wrap and wrapping up the tops of my extractors to create more of a barrier between the plug leads and the hot pipes? Cheers
Just thought i would let ya's know, i cut up a coke can and wrapped it around the end of the lead and its workin a treat, i should have the plugs on tuesday. Thanks for your help guys, cheers.
