    Exclamation Ecotec dying under acceleration.

Hey, i have a VS that ive just done an engine swap in and it sounds beautiful, everything runs smooth as silk but after ive done a couple k's (and i mean like 2 k's) it starts dying under acceleration, tonite coming home was the worst it has been and had me limping under 1.5k revs although if i plant plant my foot (before it starts dying under acceleration) it pulls to a point and then feels like ive started going backwards and just revs........ can anyone give me an idea on whats wrong? im not getting any error codes.... thanks

Maybe fuel filter blocked....cat converter blocked....fuel return line blocked. Also check if trans oil level is correct. Try codes again - should get 3 lots of 12's then it will give you codes.

Maybe check your MAF, TPS, IAC, Injectors, DFI, coils and fuel regulator, Fuel pump.....

If all those are ok then maybe you have shitty fuel in the tank....

    Maybe crap fuel or IAC.
I read on here a couple months ago to reset the IAC, get the engine warmed up, remove the negative connection on the battery for a minute, connect it again, start the car and rev to 3,000RPM for around 10 seconds.

the coil pack and DFI are from the orig engine as new engine didnt have them if that answers your question, ive been thinking its probably something to do with the coil pack as it doesnt start str8 up either it cranks a couple of times...... just gotta wait for the funding to replace the whole lot

I would be looking at your injectors and the fuel regulator as well... with any luck you still have your original motor for spare parts.

My VS has over 3 thousand K's , was bad when I first got it. But now with some TLC it runs almost like new.

What made you swap it anyway?

ok so i just got all new coil packs, new leads, new plugs and it does seem different BUT i still lose power accelerating also i have noticed a sort of rubbing/hissing kind of noise only sometimes when i accelerate.... would i need to drive the car a lil for it to run rite if it was one of the replaced items? oh and i changed the air filter just so i knew that wasnt to problem......

i would go with the fuel or the air mixture as to much air getting into ya engine then fuel or the injectors as one or two could be blocked sound like the air and fuel mixture is out .

ok so update on the piece of shit, i just done school run and by the time i got there i only had 1200rpm at my disposal. the car was idling high when i started it this morning aswell and didnt settle, i turned car off and started it 4 times before it settled, if i turn the car off when it all but gives up leave it for a minute and then prime it a couple times ill get the same distance again to get me home..... i was thinking fuel pump but i was told that EFI wont run without the correct pressure to begin with? is this true? i cant help but think it is the fuel pump as it just seems like fuel pressure is reducing....... another idea was IAC............ its not leads or plugs or coils as they are all new and working fine..... thanks guys

yeah i honestly believe its the fuel pump, its very noisey aswell but i was also led to believe that was normal for them to get noisey...... i think ill replace it! I want to replace it anyway because of the annoying and embarrassing noise it makes

If it was Idling high, I would look at a vacuum leak.

Your story reminds me of my old Torana and the manual choke.

Might be a blocked catalytic converter or something else restricting the exhaust.

ok so another update on progress, i went for another drive around Caboolture and this time i just cruised, maybe gave it a tiny bit although my foot was nowhere near the floor and she went great (apart from vibration in 3rd gear) no hesitation at all just nice smooth acceleration, i still have my flat spot in throttle response though and the engine cranks excessively, its not like 1 crank and boom shes started its more like 5 cranks or more and she starts (depending on engine temp and when i last started engine) im thinking maybe i need to replace DFI (wateva it is) and/or plugs...
