Default intermittent problem possible fuel related?

I have had a problem with the statesman which only occurs months apart out of the blue ,it mainly happens driving in hilly areas a slow speeds towing and might be possibly heat related When I turn the car off for a few minutes and go to start it it will miss fire and only run a couple of cylinders and either die and wont start or revs unevenly for about 20-30 seconds and comes good again with some throttle
It done this again today and I had to let it sit for about 20minutes before it restarted in this time I poured water over the CAS but this didnt seem to make much of a difference
After driving the statesman it is starting fine again But to be on the safe side I replaced the regulator and fuel filter but I have no way of testing if this has fixed it

The reason I think its Fuel pressure or fuel related is I can replicate the exact problems by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the car and also the fuel filter and fuel were very dirty

any ideas on this or is this more than likely a CAS problem?

Maybe it's not bad fuel but some bad 'crap' inside the fuel tank that gets stirred up when going in hilly areas, mixes with the fuel etc. Another possibility is that the fuel line or filter is too close to a part of the exhaust and suffers from heat soak which boils the fuel in the lines - I had a Valiant that had this problem and it was solved by wrapping the fuel line in aluminium foil.

Ill check it out It certainly feels the same as heat soak you would get in a carby car but Interestly the new filter & regulator has fixed another problem I have had with a bad series of misses under WOT

the filter could have been causing a pressure drop in your fuel so under load could be effecting performance, also a dirty filter creates extra load on your pump and could cause it to start failing. i would run tank down low, jack car up and remove the plate that is your fuel sender and pump. there is also a strainer on pump inside tank, have a look and see if anything in tank or blocking that filter
