So I loaded up my ute today and I was scrubbing faily hard on the rear left guard, more so when I went around a right hand bend?
I stopped my ute and got out and noticed shredded rubber stuck to the side of the body and checked for clearance with my finger tips and noticed the tyre and the guard were very close and couldn't get my fingers between the two, but on the other side I can quite easily.
Upon further inspection I noticed the trailing arm bushes (not sure what their really called) were flogged out?
Could this be causing the rear solid axle to shift to one side or has it been in an accident at some point in its life?
I don't think this is a result of an accident, more the design of the rear suspension.
With a solid rear axle, as you load the ute down, the panhard rod is trying to push the diff to the left. The flogged out trailing arm bushes would be allowing it to move a lot further than it should. The trailing arm bushes definitely need replacing. If you have lowered springs or constantly carrying heavy loads, then it might also pay to install an adjustable panhard rod.
As said adjustable panhard rod
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
ok, cheers... I'll get onto it
I had the exact problem, until as mention I Installed an Adjustable Pan-hard Rod. Never any scrapping at all now even fully loaded.
