remove the front floor panel in the back ute, the fuel tank is under there, check all the vent hoses on the top of the tank, if they're perished/come off the fumes will make it back into the cabin

In my dads VS 5 litre the breather line for the tank was perished and fell off... We pulled the hatch up, clamped on a random piece off hose and pointed it to the road.... When he was taking corners fuel was splashing out and going everywhere...

In my VR V6 ute I had a bad fuel smell in the cab and it turned out to be leaking injectors from using a tank of E10 fuel.
