So I recently upgraded from a Level 2 cluster to Level 3. Yesterday, the backlight illumination just stopped working, the left one flickers occasionally but the other two don't even do that, nothing at all. I checked fuses and they are all fine. All other illumination works. FYI, I havent upgraded the loom yet, I am just checking if it is worth the upgrade but it worked fine for about a week. I did change the indicator globes to LEDs in the bottom strip the day before it happened although it worked 100% then till I started it the next day. Any suggestions?

If the globes are not working after testing OK and fuse is OK - then the earth track or + track for the lights is damaged some place on the back of the cluster.
Fit your L2 back in to see if it lights up OK.

Globes are fine, fuse looked fine but I swapped any way, all tracks appear in good nick. The old cluster illuminates with out a hitch.

Id be guessing if the tracks arent cracked(its the most likely cause) its some sort of contact issue ...that twist and turn arrangement of the bulbs themselves can give a bad contact and can sometimes let you down...also where the cluster goes into the plugs on the dashpad...maybe the lug isnt making good contact with the circuit board or it isnt located properly in the recess in the cluster.

After an afternoon of tinkering, it appeared the simple fact of using LEDs instead of incandescent globes caused the issue. Even though it work perfectly for a week (it was a 600 km week) NFI why it decided all of a sudden why it wouldn't work...
