What autos work in a VS v6

My father inlaws vs will require a auto soon, are vs-vy autos interchangeable? Ive been told that though they are 4l60e`s...they are actually different.

Can someone confirm this?

Nah they're not really.

6HDD for VS V6 (1996), 7HDD for newer (97) i think.

You'll be able to see a similar code printed on your trans, you should be able to see it from the engine bay looking down towards the trans.

6HDD and 7HDD will fit into either. 5HDD im not to sure. Vt went to a 7HFPD or close to that which are different. You can fit them, but there is alot of ####ing around.

Whats wrong with yours, may be cheaper to fix it rather then replace it.

slipping heaps in reverse, its almost not there. Just just going to buy a second hand one. was working on the logic that a later model will have lower kms and thus be in better condition.

You never know. My 97 has done alot. I picked up a 6HDD with less kms then my 7HDD. Heres a VT series 2 auto next to a 7HDD.

did you just buy the parts and do that all yourself or have it done by pro? bout to rebuild an auto myself and had same things in mind seems the way to go. Just thaught i'd be up for bout 2 na half 3 grand for an auto thats happy to take a fair beatin, from a 6 anyway?
