Unhappy Fuel Sender Problem??? VR V6 Help Needed

    Hey guys.

Something strange happened the other day.

I'll start by saying I have a Level 3 dash. I turned the car on and the fuel light was on and beeped at me. When I checked how much fuel was in the tank the reading was -10.0L. But I knew there was plenty of fuel in it. It eventually went back to normal.

Now the fuel gauge and tank level reading is being very erratic. I put $50 worth of fuel in the other morning and the next morning I checked and the level was quite low (<20L) but then at other times it would read normally (About 40L).

Its all over the shop. With the car stationary whilst holding the button in the level can vary by 4-5L. Whilst driving around then checking the level again it will change heaps. For eg, it would change from 30L, then check it again later and it would be 18L, then back up to 25L later on, down to 19L, etc etc. Its frustrating because I don't know how much fuel I actually have in the tank.

Has anybody come across this issue? Hopefully someone can help me out.

    Thanks guys.

I have the same problem with my vx. Im not 100% sure why but i think it might have some thing to do with the fuel pump floot lever

It could be the sender, Your better off finding a good second hand one unless you have a spare $300.. While your at it you may as well change the fuel pump.

When you did the level 3 did you do the conversion properly or did you just change the dash? (no loom, bcm, trip computer or light switch).

If you did do it correctly, what loom, just the 4th plug patch wire or the complete dash loom?

Its a Berlina, it came with the Level 3 dash. This problem only just popped up.

I have an 80L tank sitting around with sender and a new pump thats going in early next year. I could probably just put up with the problem till then, just wanted to know if it was actually the sender or not.

    Cheers

    Just an update.

The problem has gotten worse, as in the gauge permanently says empty, the fuel level constantly says -10.0L and the fuel light is always on.

Maybe the float arm fell off or something lol
