    Default VS L67 Exhaust

    Hey guys,

I called up the exhaust shop that we use at work and I asked them about a twin 2 1/4 inch exhaust system for my VS L67, because a few members on here suggested it.

They said that because the car is lowered and because the car has a live axle, it is impossible to fit that exhaust setup to my car. They said a single 2 1/2 inch with twin 200 CPI cats and the pacemaker extractors will be alright.

I already have the extractors and the 2 1/2 inch cat back exhaust fitted so that means that I just need the cats. Anyway, I was quoted between $550 and $650 because they need to make up a Y piece.

Anyway, what do you guys think, does that sound like it should be alright or should I get another opinion from a different exhaust shop?

    Cheers,
    Ben

a few things to remember which ever way you go:

    1. there are no heat shields for the cats, so they won't be able to be tucked up to high, unless you want carpet fire...

    2. make sure you get the ends cut of the extractors (just after the oxygen sensor bung), and reflanged. they are 2.5" at that point. The standard outlet if only 2".

    3. Keep in mind what your going to do with the car. If you plan on a lot in the next short while, single 2.5" is prob going to be too small.

If its stock that'll be ok I guess, but with any minor mods the L67 really benefits from an unrestricted and free flowing exhaust. Tell the exhaust place their full of it as its been done many times... Im running twin 2.5" all the way to the tips on my vs.
If you cant find anyone to run twins up over the diff then you could run a single 3" from the diff back. It will drone a little more though.

Yeah I want them to be put just behind the transmission. I lowered the car again this weekend and if they put the cats next to the transmission, they will scrape on the ground haha. Put I want to be able to remove the transmission sump easily as I service the transmission every 20,000kms. I don't know what else i'm going to do to the engine, all I know is i'm keeping the car so anything could end up happening. I would like to get an intercooler setup and another supercharger pulley kit, not sure what else. Thanks for mentioning the ends of the extractors, ill mention that to them as well.

I believe you that you can run 2.5 inch twin all the way, you would think twin 2 1/4 inch would be easier, maybe its too much work for them. I was thinking of a 3 inch exhaust before the diff but I don't want to get it done and then i'm not happy with it because of droning. It's auto as well so it will drone.

Another question, is 200CPI cats right?, i'm really not sure what that even means as I don't do alot of work with exhausts.

200cpi cats are what I've got (200cpi been 200 cells per inch) and are high flow enough for just about any six.

not sure on drone at cruising speeds, but mine drones at about 80kph, which, with a standard geared diff, would prob be about 100kph. thats manual with a big resonator.

Ok, and do you mind me asking, where about are your cats located on your exhaust system? (Next to the gearbox, behind the gearbox, etc?), but I just realised that it probably doesn't matter because mine is auto so there is less room anyway. Your cats probably fit next the the gearbox with no problems.

My WH Statesman with the catback exhaust drones at 80km/h, the VS doesn't really drone at all with the current exhaust system.
