    Default VS vaccum problem

    Hey all
Having a really anoying issue with my vs exec. Its got a vaccuum leak which cause the heater/aircon to only blow air in the feet and dimester setting. Ive recently went over all the vaccuum lines inside the car and in the engine bay but cant find any trace of leaks. I also replaced the vaccuum ball today seeing as it was completly missing lol and thought that would it fix it but nothing. Its coming into summer and id like to blow nice cool air on my face lol. Done a search but nothing has really helped me.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks

Your right, the car doesn't need the ball. It's reserve vacuum.

I'm assuming you checked the line plug connecting to the back of the selector switch.

I reckon your leak is down near your left footrest. Open your door and get on the ground with a torch and have a look down near the footrest. There is a rod that connects to the heat adjuster. Follow that back towards your shifter and you will find TWO 90 degree vacuum connections that commonly get knocked of when people fit stereos.

Also check at the rear of the inlet manifold where the vacuum originates - a black vacuum hose is attached to the manifold and then goes to a "T" piece and off to vacuum ball and into cabin etc. There is also a one way valve there - is reversed it blocks flow which previous owner may have done. Good Luck.

    Thanks for the replys guys
Bowtie:Ive checked those two lines that you have mention. There both on, but when i pull one of them off only seems to be sucking is that normal? Is it possible one of the lines has a hole?
Hako: havent checked the valve, can they malfunction in anyway?

The one way valve rarely fails. You do need the vacuum ball which stores reserve vacuum. If it is removed or disconnected the aircon will only direct the air correctly when you have a steady throttle which creates a high vacuum. On acceleration there is only a vastly reduced vacuum available to hold the aircon vents at their setting (the vent servos use vacuum)......so I'd reconnect or re-instal that first because the system will never work correctly without it.

The 1way check valve can play up or accidentally be reversed by someone replacing vacuum hoses.

If you disconnect the line from the back of the inlet manifold, it should allow you to suck air through the valve towards the manifold, but not blow away from it. Have a look.

Also, have you replaced all the vacuum lines you can? It's cheap and easy.

Ive replace the vaccuum ball and the line that attaches to it still no help. Ill reverse the valve and see if it has an effect.
Also i havent replaced any lines accept the line from the vaccuum ball to the t-piece behind the manifold.

Dakster: im pretty sure its vaccum leak because when i turn the dial on the controls i hear a constant hissing noise. Any thoughts??

Can the little black valve that has two hoses connected to it become faulty?

My VS Berlina has climate control, so your car may not be the same, but I assume climate control is more to do with temp control than airflow control, so this may still apply.

At the bottom of the centre console on the climate control models, well below the radio, there is a solenoid which operates the vents. This solenoid is famous for causing exactly the issue you are describing.

Since the solenoid controls airflow not temperature, I would assume its likely that your Exec also has one. Just an assumption mind you !!

THIS THREAD may be useful, and within that thread are several more useful links. There are pix of the parts in question.

The hissing noise could just be gas moving within the system. Many AC systems make little noises, especially if the gas is low. It shouldnt be constant though, perhaps you have two problems..

Again, for all I know the lack of climate control changes everything and you dont even have this part.. but this solenoid causes exactly the problem you describe in climate control versions.

The hissing noises I dont know, of course it could be a vacuum line somewhere, but it also could be just the AC gas moving around, mine makes a hissing noise sometimes too. I suspect its a sign that something isnt right, perhaps mine is low on gas, I have no idea.
