    Default Steering Sound

    Yet another steering sound,

ive uploaded a sound file at http://www.2shared.com/audio/zalRd8Ja/Memo.html

I believe it is coming from the right hand front of the car, maybe the strut tower, could also be a drive belt (i.e. power steering rack).

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Try another sound link - that one is full of spam and crap and if I wasn't running Linux I'd be in trouble!
Also do some elimination - jack the front up and turn wheels with engine off to eliminate PS pump. etc.

Sound file requires you to download the .exe file and instal etc.....there are better ways to do this....someone will know.

What are you clicking on? I had no such problems... I cannot tell from from that audio . you may have air in the lines or lack of fluid...........

Got the audio this time but like James39 it gives no clues. Maybe give a more detailed description of the problem...what revs....hot or cold....PS fluid level OK?....any PS fluid leaks?....has steering been worked on lately?....is there any feedback thru the steering wheel when noise appears?

    Thanks for your time guys,

The sound is obviously very metallic, sharp and short during tight turns as the car moves from a stand still.

Can only get the sound when at almost full lock, and I move from a stand still position.

I've checked fluid, drive belt and pulleys. I have not yet jacked it up to test power steering pump while engine is off.

I'm beginning to think its intermittent, and maybe worth just waiting for the problem to worsen before attempting to diagnose.

Easy to fix a hard fault ey

Thanks once again, let's see if anyone else has had similar sounds.

It may just be the steering hitting the end stop....this is metal to metal and sometimes makes a clunk....or from your description it may be a worn radius rod bushing that allows the wheel to move about on full lock.
