vs central locking and key remote issue

ok so i just bought a vs equipe 96 model ,the problem im having is the remote key buttons suddenly dont function wont unlock or lock the car there for i can not start the car i open the door there is no interior light, dash lights dont come on when i put the key in ,car is basically dead i just put a new alternator and battery in the car and it was fine for a week and a half until a few days ago when it just didnt work at all ,thought the battery maybe be dead in the remote but not quiet sure,any help or advice on what could be causing this issue would be a great help.

Sounds like the cars battery is dead. First up, Id check the main charge wire that goes to the back of the alternator, this wire can appear to be ok on the outside, but it can get corroded under its sheath, and this causes charging problems.

I checked the main wire to the alternator it is fine the strange thing is my missus took it fir a drive the day it happened but when she got home again then went to go back out thats when the problem occured she said the car was fine before hand

Also there is a button next to the steering column on the left hand side that when pushed it kicks the motor like it wants to start but it wont turn over looks like the wires from that button go to the starter motor?,i havent niticed this button in any other commodore
