Default Vent (dial) settings not working?

So its been bugging me for ages and I have just been avoiding the job all together as it seems its going to be a pain to do, but basically my heater is always on?

Nothing comes out when the fan is switched off but when even when the temp dial is on cold and I flick the fan on its still hot and the heat is always coming out at the foot wells....

I cant seem to direct the fan to where its pictured on the fascia dial either.... So If I turn it to Cold/Demist it will still be hot and at the foot well :/

This is really a pain in the arse when its raining and the car is fogging up.... I gotta drive around with the windows down getting wet, which is about as gay as Richard Simmons...

Any ideas how to fix it?

    Cheers

The heater tap is not turning off when you select COLD.....may be due to the selector arm not turning vacuum switch off which is a common problem and easily fixed. It lives under the dash and to the left of your left ankle and up a bit. It falls off the clip. See pics for an idea. Pics 3 and 4 are of the actual heater tap under the bonnet. If this is the problem you can buy a new clip or bodgy it up one way or another. Good Luck.

It will be the vacume feed to the dial itself, if it stays on hot and feet no matter what it's set on.

I had this fault last time I put my engine back in the one way vac valve was put in backwards. This is behind the engine near the firewall. Just make sure all the hoses are on and your getting vac, wouldn't expected it to be the one way valve anless you have been mucking around with it recently.

Well everything looks attached on the inside of the car, but it appears I don't have the waste gate looking thingy (pic 3-4) under the bonnet...

Im actually think I can recall seeing it in on the garage floor when I had my motor out a couple of months ago and never put it back on :/ I think I replaced it with just a normal hose with out it attached....

What exactly does it do? And would this be why I cant select vent direction?

The waste gate thingy is the heater tap - it stops the flow of hot coolant thru the heater when you dial cold......it's vacuum operated so the vacuum hose is probably 'hanging loose' which will negate stuff you vacuum and affect vent direction. You must put it back otherwise it will never work.
