The alt will cope no problems....the standard VS 2 speed fan cools efficiently so I personally would not bother changing it. If I wanted extra cooling power I'd fit a larger radiator. My VS has lived in Mt Isa, Townsville and Toowoomba and temps never been over 3/4 except when the water pump seized - temp went up like a rocket in 100 metres and overheating alarm chime sounded. Replaced 2 pumps and one radiator plus all hoses in 8 years.

I agree, the standard fan is pretty efficient.

Problem with that is when the front fan is off it acts as a blockage to normal airflow....plus the aircon condenser is in the way.

is a large aftermarket thermo fan or 2 smaller ones ok and if you put au thermo fans on will the vs alternator cope and is getting a aftermarket switch for one side to cut in at lower temperature and either using the original wire or running a new one from the aircon for the other side ok

You can get the ECU reflashed to turn the fans on earlier if desired. Can you also please explain why you want to alter the factory setup. The VS alternator put out 90 amps and the AU fans drag about 15 amps but it is not that simple because you will also have the aircon on (25amps) plus at night you have headlights and spotties (30amps) and a big mother amplifier (80 amps)....push the fag lighter and all the fuses blow! ----so there is no easy answer unless you can provide all the variables.....you can hotwire the fans easily to come on at a flick of a switch.
