Hey guys,
I just recently got extractors and a lukey 2.5" inch exhaust put on my car. Ever since I have had them installed if I'm going up a hill, or sometimes down a hill I get a knocking noise from what feels like just near the gearbox, you can really feel it on your foot if its resting on the foot rest. The exhaust has been removed and put back on again to see if that was causing the knocking, but it still seems to do it. Any idea what it might be? I'm thinking it could still be the exhaust knocking but I'm not sure.
Thanks
Well it could be a flex plate issue or a big end, Id say its hard to pin it on the exhaust unless you gave it the beans after installing the exhaust and just happened to spin a bearing or something...
Is it only under load? For example can you rev it in Park or Neutral and it will still make the knocking sound? and is it audible at idle?
Lets just hope its and exhaust leak but if its felt through the pedal then it sounds a bit more serious then that...

Thanks for your reply. It doesn't happen when in park or neutral, really just going up or down a hill or sometimes when the road is really rough. I'll take it somewhere to get looked at but I'd like to have a bit of an idea first, I'm a 19 year old girl and this is my first car and I dont want to get ripped tale it into a shop just yet.
What State are you in, or whats the closest town?
Plenty of members would be happy to recommend one near you if you don't already have a family Mechanic....
But really its hard to say what the sound is without actually being in it, it may even be the diff?
You need to get under your car (after you jack it up and place on car stands, or run it up on ramps) and check out how the exhaust has been installed. Sounds like it's hitting on the body somewhere underneath. Check out the hangers and rubber rings and make sure they are all there. Push the exhaust hard upwards at a number of different points along its length and see if it hits the floor of the car or anything else.
