Hi all i joined this forum in hope that someone can help me out with my vs? i have had it to a mechanic twice this week as it seems when i drive it for a while and it heats up it starts surging like it can`t get any fuel and dies??? i have replaced cas as the harmonic balancer was sick so i thought that may have caused a dodgy cas but none of tht fixed anything. mechanic retention the harness connector plug for dfi and thought he had fixed it but didnt change a thing. where to from here??? i have changed fuel filter about three months ago. spark plugs and tested leads and coil packs all seem to be fine. i live on a big hill and it seems to get this problem when im traveling back up the hill. the mechanic said they cant diagnose it when it doesnt have the problem when he gets it i even drove him all the way up the hill and do you think the darn thing would play up" drove fineany help or suggestions would be much appreciated cheers
Does it overheat and have you replaced the DFI and coil packs?
have not replaced dfi or coil packs mechanic seems to think they are fine he tested it not long ago and it is bringing up the code for the crank sensor but i have replaced this. and yes it is getting hot does not boil but is getting hot
You need to reset the ECU to clear the code by disconecting the battery for a few mins or so.... If it is getting hotter than it normally is then I would replace the themostat.
also check for coolant loss.
If the code comes back for the CAS then I would I replace it again.
vs s1 error codes 46,47,49 ???
so took my vs back 2 mechanic and it is bringing up code 46,47,49 which points back to crank sensor that i have replaced any ideas ? the mechanic seems to think that the wires from crank angle sensor to the dfi are faulty in some way ? any ideas people? ecu was cleared at the mechanic to mate
Code 46 - No Reference Signals while cranking <--- To do with the keyhead?
Code 47 - Crank Angle Reference Signal
Code 49 - Crank or Cam angle Sensor Intermittent
Going by a few of those the car would not even start.. There is another sensor that it mentions for code 49 "cam angle sensor" I am unsure where that it is or knew that a V6 had one.
Just because you replaced the CAS does not mean it would not be faulty. swap it with another known working one.

Your CAM Angle sensor is located just below the Water pump. It is held in by a 10mm bolt, not hard to remove and replace at all. I'm suspecting it could be your Cam Angle Sensor, although they are not a common thing to fail in the Commodores, so trying another one can not hurt.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
