well i have a 1993 vr commodore and im having problems with what i think is the transmission
at first my reverse went so i couldnt reverse (but all other gear work fine) so i went and seen a transmission place and threy told me to put this stuff in the oil to try a loosen some rubber thing thats not letting it go into reverse but that didnt work at all
so the other day i was driving and it just cut out and died and drive wouldnt work and it wouldnt start up at all so i waited a little while at it started up and it drove fine until i got it home
so i dont know what is wrong with it can someone help me on this? or should i not worry about spending money on it trying to fix it or would i just be better off getting a reconditioned gearbox?

Reco. box. Lack of reverse is usually the first sign. It will end up letting you right down and it'll cost you more to have it picked up and towed.
check your error codes.
could possibly be shift solenoids,or the car is in limp home mode.

this is gunna sound dumb but
how do i check the error codes??
Just underneath the steering column is a plug.... Brigde hokes 5 and 6 with a paper clip... Then turn your key till the dash lights come on(do not start the car)... Watch the engine light... First lot of blinks are 10s... Second lot are 1s... For example 1 blink then 2 blinks is 12... Or 2 binks then 3 blinks is 23... If you get stuck google vr commodore error codes. Youll find a full list and a more detailed information...
i dont really understand it but i took a video of my car
would anyone be able to help me?

As it so happens, we are in the exact same situation with our VS which my daughter now drives - just this afternoon as it went into 2nd gear she heard and felt a thump and a grinding sound, then the car seemed sluggish and drove different to normal - then called round our place (about 3 km - I drove the car which hung on to 1st till about 4000rpm then changed OK.....took it back home then checked reverse...no reverse. This happened 7 years ago in this car exactly the same - cause then was a busted sunshell which means either repair the unit and hope no metal got into the rest of the trans (about $900) or maybe $1800+ for a reco fitted. This is the common transmission fail with VR/VS Commodores. I'm a bit browned off as last time it was fully reco'd with a stronger sunshell fitted....plus I'm going to have to lend the daughter the money which is what parents are for.
We're tossing options around...one from a wrecker plus fitting may be an option but unless you plan on unloading the car in the near future it would really be better to get it reconditioned with a proper guarantee. I don't really feel like fitting one myself as I'm getting too B old to spend a few days under the car cursing and swearing and losing skin and blood. Bright side is that it could have happened away from home when you really are into the unknown.
So to the OP, I share your frustration.
Edit...didn't check the codes as no engine light came on plus I'm over it!

just replace the 02 sensor or check wiring if your car is running rich the sensor is farked an air mass sensor might need to be cleaned or replaced 02 sensor will cause car to die while driving.

Neither of those codes affect selecting reverse in any way so I wouldn't worry about them now.....if you haven't had engine problems I'd disconnect the battery and wipe those codes....then see if they come back. However, your first priority is getting reverse....mine also. We're even thinking of scrapping our VS as the bill for a reco is $2100 and you can buy some lower mileage cars for just a bit more. Wreckers here have a box for $600 with 3 months warrany but cannot fit till after Xmas.....more problems.

all i done was have the wreckers fit one

Item number one from 4L60e common problems. The transmission place already told you about the additive according to your first post.
1. Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the rear of the trans may help (must remove valve body), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan).
