Default oil pressure sensor + thermo fan question

hey guys just a couple of simple questions regarding my 1996 vs v6 s2 commodore (248000km)
1 today the seal in the oil pressure sensor crapped out spitting out oil whenever it runs, cheap fix thankgod but ive never changed one before, cars still hot so i havnt tried to pull it out yet, what is involved? is it difficult?
2 for quite some time ive been having probs with my thermo fans they only turn on when it gets like 1 or 2 lines from hot, cool when im moving but if i sit in 1 place for more than 10min it starts to heat up bit, I dont want to put a switch on it, I'd like it to do what its supposed to, any idea why this is happening? has it happened to you? if so how did you fix it?
any help would be appreciated thanks in advance for any help guys

Give it a bleed first sometimes people don`t bleed all the air out.
And open the heater to hot.

Further to VS_Pete_1's comments re your problem 2:

Temperature sender unit - The temperature sender unit used in VS V6's was carried over from VR's, but the location was changed to a hotter part of the engine. This may cause higher temperature readings on the gauge before the thermo fan cuts in. In mid 1997, the sender unit was revised to suit the new engine position and engine temperatures, which show a lower reading on the gauge before thermo fan activation.

    Good point mate.
temperature sensor unit is the shinny one.
Temperture sender is the smaller one.

My opinion only, but there is no guarantee a new sender will change the reading so it may be a waste of money as some have found....the new sender only change the way the gauge reads (or so I'm told) so it will not in any way cool the engine.
You can get the ECU twigged so the fan comes on earlier but really why bother unless the car is actually overheating. As long as the fan comes on when it reaches 3/4 gauge reading you have nothing to worry about...if it goes higher to the top, the overheat warning chime will sound (which I heard when my waterpump seized). If you are running the correct coolant, radiator, hoses and heater tap are all in good condition then all should be OK.
The Ecotec engine is designed to run fairly hot which is why they have a 1.35Kpa radiator cap - that in part is what makes the Ecotec a very efficient motor despite being primitive mechanically.

ok so i know why the oil sensor fkd out, theres a bloody crack on the block where it screws in, whoever owned before me has done some fkn dodgy fix, there was a shitload of plumbers tape on the old sensor, buut Ive noticed theres bolts that seem to attach that piece where the sensor and filter screws in to the block, so is it possible to remove that piece and get a new section and reattach to the block? I'm hoping I can get that piece as really don't have the money for a new engine. I couldnt give a shit about the thermo's now lol

Sounds like you might need a new engine front cover assembly. Refer to the attached diagram:

sorry for the late comeback only fixed it yesterday, pretty easy just loosen power steering pump pully bolts, remove drive belt, remove power steering pump pulley, drop oil, undo power steering pump(dont have to undo hoses just undo bracket bolts so you can shift it out of way) replace assembly and bang it back together, took me bout an hour, thanks for all your help boys!!
