hey guys
i putting my calais in for a new power steering rack
but been told there ment to be a few types has
anyone know what a 1995 vs calais have?
the only thing different is the speed sensative steering which came out with calais and statos
some are ment to be electric too which that got me pluzzed
Speed sensitive steering is electric in the sense that the amount of steering assistance is determined by the BCM (Body Control Module) depending on road speed via a solenoid on the rack. Normal racks don't have this solenoid and the amount of assistance is determined by the design of the steering rack/pump and hydraulics.
ok so since when they went electric ???
You can substitute the rack from the common Executive and non speed sensitive ones. When you see the price of the Varionic rack (think that's what it's called) you will get a shock. They are a straight swap apparently.
"If anyone disagrees with anything I say, I am quite prepared not only to retract it, but also to deny under oath that I ever said it." --T. Lehrer
"The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that you've got it made." -- Jean Giraudoux
Power steering pumps on the speed sensitive equipped vehicles are different.
It may still work to swap the rack out with a regular one, I don't know, but they are different pumps.
