Has anyone got a ruff idea on the cost to put the turbo on an ecotech ?
And how well can it be hidden ? Haha
Any info would be great
if by going off your username and want to put some forced induction in a car you will drive on the street then please go find another hamster as your wheel is spinning but the current one is dead.
any engine modifications in your car as a vic p plater (i take bayside as in vic) you will have no insurance if you crash
so before people like reaper get onto this thread and say he will tear you a new one if you crash into his pride and joy pull your head in.
save your money and do it when you can legally. (or buy a v8 =P )
however if it isnt for on the road/until you get off the p's (which i take it you may have a while to go)
it can cost as much as you want it to. but look upwards of $5000 to buy all the bits and then add labour costs/tuning
also the costs involved to "beef up" the rest of the motor to handle power can be expensive.
just check out SHYGMH with the gearbox. $3000 from memory. its not all about the power but how you put it down. and then brakes to stop.
lets put it like this. not many p platers i know with uni fees have that sort of money laying about.
just to show you the cost of the kit click the link ->Ase Turbo Kit
also i doubt you can really hide a turbo. unless you paint it as a large snail and say its my pet Gary (pick the reference)
plus its a v6. its a vs.
forced induction is pretty much pointless unless you are going to use it.
so instead save what could easily cost $8000+ put it into the bank and earn about $1600 at 5% interest a year
and put that $9600 towards a v8 when you get off your p's
or if you still want forced induction v6 do it then
trust me its hard not to want to do something to your car engine wise.
yes i am also a p plater with just under 3 years remaining.
but decided. its a v6. maybe ill save up for a 454 4spd 67-69 Camaro and do some real modifications.
obvious troll is obvious.
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
I'm from Brisbane and the cops are stupid barley lift the engine these days
No I don't go to uni either
And yes I have that money just lying around
Also I thought v8 but I still like the idea of a turbo hense why I want to do it it's something a little bit different especially where I live
Thanx for the help tho I'll have a look.
now if only you had added that info in the first post =P
ok so your from brisbane. when i read "bayside" i googled it and got the bayside part of vic.
from memory after talking to some QLD P platers you can only have a turbo if its a diesel. (they could drive their old mans v8 turbo diesel landy whenever)
this definately changes everything =P
even if they do not look in the engine bay alot you will be driving an uninsured car. which isnt exactly the best idea
even if your not the cause of the crash it could mean you do not get paid out.
although unlikely as you said you never know if they may look under the bonnet which i guess if you take the risk and get caught out... (youve probably heard the stories before)
i do like how your willing to try something different. which is actually a good thing.
if you do end up doing this let us know how it goes.
however yeah do go looking into everything and the cost (which isnt the cheapest). as said before its not as simple as bolting up a snail.
if you do go down this route i would highly recommend adding/strengthening to the handling, braking and drivetrain of the vehicle.
Check out my thread if you want to have a look at building your own turbo set up. i'm still up to about 3 grand for it all though.

Cheers guys I will look into it
Yeah I'm doing the brake up grade shortly and I just asked around about handeling and what not I don't really no what I would have to improve tho ?
And I can't get on your thread I don't know why ?

Which bank pays $1600 interest on an $8000 principle? I want in! :P
Correct math is:
$8000 @ 5% p.a.
= $400 per annum ... or
= $33.34 per month ... or
= $7.69 per week.
So if he/she was to invest $8000 they would end up with $8400 after 1 year.
NOTE: before someone tries to shut me down with the argument "You didn't count the fact it's compounded interest" ... Banks pay interest in "Simple" and charge interest in "compound". That's why they're so rich! :O
fair call against my missing of other words i guess. =P
what i was leaning towards is you have P Plates for 4 years (here in vic anyway which i assumed they were aswell)
so after the 4 years you would have approx $9600 saved up ($1600 up at 5% interest. after 4 years. not counting in fees or the extra earned)
plus Yr 12 has finished. alot of P Platers have just finished school. thus i assumed again this would be the case.
so yeah thanks for making me recorrect myself =P
as for handling improvements.
better suspension set up. eg coilovers and so forth.
also swaybars.
all i can think of off the top of my head
ahhh yes Drawnnite... I see your point! 4 years on P's...![]()
