Hi all,
Ok had a weird one today with my 5Litre commodore......Had taken the family out for a drive and after doing about a 140km trip was nearly home and she just started coughing and spluttering. So I pulled over and noticed that it was hardly idling. And giving it any throttle resulted in it not able to respond at all. So i shut it down and looked for any obvious signs of a problem...Nothing jumped out at me!!!! So i had the Mrs turn ignition on and off so i could check if fuel pump was running...Tested OK... So the Mrs decided to start walking home with the kids and I decided to give it another try and it started and was running fine again and is now!!!!!!WTF????
maybe the fuel filter.
No mate fuel filter is about 3weeks old..
Fuel pump may have seen better days. Pressure test it.
No Error Codes........
First, have you made sure that all your leads, particularly the coil lead -> distributor are secure. Otherwise, it's possibly ignition module, coil or Hall Effect sensor in the distributor on their way out. In my experience, coil problems are an all or nothing, either they work or they don't. Ignition modules are known to have heat problems as they age, then work OK as they cool down. Ignition module is faster to change but can be expensive unless you pick up a cheap used one on eBay or a reconditioned one.
Thanks mate, I am of a similar opinion as this is the longest continuos trip i have done in the car since i bought it 6 months ago. So the ignition module seems like a good place to start.
