Hi all,
Just wanting people's experiences with a few things. I have had my car now and am getting sick of the standard look.
Where have people had their exhausts, tinting, lowering, soundsystems done and what did they cost?
Ta
Well if you grab a service manual and some basic tools including a jack and jackstands you should be able to pick up a decent cat back exhaust off eBay for $170 - $300 and bolt it on yourself. A 2.25" or 2.5" catback with or without a resi is the most popular. A 2.25" with resi is arguably the best sounding and doesn't drone like the 2.5" without a resi, but not everyone cares about drone so go for whatever you like most. YouTube exhaust videos for a rough idea.
If I was you I'd probably get the tint done professionally, I did and it's still fine 12 years later so it's worth it IMO. Probably looking at around $400? Not sure, depends on the brand and % of tint you want. 20% is probably the best all round, but it is just below the legal limit.
Lowering again you can probably do yourself if you take your time, and follow the service manual. I've found my local Bursons Auto Parts to be the best place to get parts, and they stock King Springs and KYB, and Monroe if you want to go that way. they'll also be able to give some advice and make sure you get the right parts. Looking at $500 - $700 there. Don't forget to do any worn bushes, bearings, the link pins etc.
I had my stereo professionally done as I'm not as good with wiring etc, depending on what you want you could spend $100 or $1000+.
As for where to get stuff done, well you should probs have said where you live lol![]()
Pretty much what was said above.
I got a 2 1/4 in exhaust with resi, sounds alright and isnt a bad way to go.
Lowering can be cool but keep in mind practicallity.
A nice sets of rims sets off a car pretty nice as well.
I replaced the headlights in my car with strobe lights, so it looks like I'm the only one moving
I don't know what's that word "resi". LOL
I have a 96 VS Acclaim Station Wagon
A sport exhaust cost me $350 fitted
Lowering a Commodore looks cool.
But you better not drive it on rough roads or you will destroy it.
I have a old 82 VK which was lowered and it broke the chassis and the suspension at the back.
I welded it 3 times... and everytime it breaks somewhere else.
MAD about Bathurst. http://www.aussies-online.com
Sorry, resi is short for resonator. It's a type of muffler, on our cars it's the smaller round one right at the back of the exhaust. You won't crack a chassis lowering a car sensibly, FE2 or King Springs lows like I have are just a little lower, about the height of a standard SS but the Kings Springs are a bit firmer. Best choice for a daily IMO.
thanks for everyones input. i shall see how the summer unfolds money wise!
