so basically i did a transmission service my self on my vs acclaim, by mistake i didn't get all the oil out of the transmission put the new filter and gasket in topped it up with about 4.5ltrs of transmission oil, regrettably i didn't check the transmission dip stick drove my car in town 2 get it road worthy and in all the excitement completely forgot 2 check the transmission oil level for 2weeks, by this time the gears started slipping i new something was up so i drove straight home realizing all this time i had not checked the transmission oil level, as i got home it blew out the transmission dip stick about 1ltr of oil spilled over the extractors white smoke every-ware, turned her off put the dip stick back in let it cool down decreased engine bay check transmission oil level an obviously it was way over filled almost double the recommended amount, and now i cant get any gears not Reverse not 1st,2nd,3rd :S the box is still over filled should i drain it again and try putting the correct amount back in or should i look for another box!!!!! please help need advice
Defiantly try filling it to the correct level before you change the transmission.
Overfilling it probably caused it to get quite hot. I'd probably drop the fluid and put new fluid in to the right level and try again.
Not going into gears is usually due to low fluid.
You do know to check the fluid after putting it into all the gears idling in park ay.
Try draining it and start over.
Remember to put it through all the gears whilst idling and check level with engine running.
I don't understand why you think you didn't get all the fluid out of the transmission. If you have changed the filter and gasket then you must have drained the transmission pan. If you only added 4.5l of fluid afterwards there is no way that the trans is overfilled, in fact it could be a little underfilled, since a V6 service fill normally needs an additional 4.8l. You may have a plugged cooler line or a pump failure.
Following on from what BlackXVGTS says, it doesn't sound like you've overfilled it. Dropping the pan requires 4.8 litres to refill and you put in 4.5 litres which is slightly underfilled. The dipstick ejecting is usually caused by the oil getting overheated and basically boiling......when you changed the filter did you remove the old seal completely and properly insert the new seal? - if the seal is not 100% correct, the pump will suck air as well as oil and you get foaming and aerated oil which then can prevent the clutches from gripping properly which then allows slip and overheating and spitting the dipstick out.

The level is also higher when it's off. The reason you check it idling after you've been through all the gears as this is when there is the least fluid in the bottom of the box.
