Gday all,
ive recently purchased a towbar setup with all the bolts etc from ebay, my problem is is that by the design of it it looks like i may have to drop the fuel tank to access the bolt holes needed. I've searched these forums but found no where that the tank needs to be dropped.
Im unsure if its a Hayman Reece, i dont believe it is. Does anyone know of a good guide on how to install this?? Cheers
Here's a pic:

hope this works
Havn't seen a towbar like that before. It will be very weak only bolting to a small area and not right across the back.
Just found another member here with fitting pics. Fuel tank removal is not required, but maybe should be done to avoid drilling into it.
Towbar installation
that is a standard light duty towbar, tank removal is not required, however care needs to be taken. all points where you need to drill should be marked in the boot of your car. these towbars were used on all commodores to vs.
Thankyou to Woteva and madson1_1999 for your helpful contributions to my thread, greatly appreciated, i shall tackle it in the coming weekend.
dude if ur plannin on towing a caravan or even a car trialer dont fit that, go out to a tow bnar specialist get a heavy duty tow bar, i got one on my car that is wieght to 2.1 tonne, ur prob better off going wit that then fittin that lil tow bar crap, plus it looks like u only got the tongue and a bar, not everything else that it is meant to come wit
As already stated, that is a very light duty towbar and only suitable for a box trailer.......if that's all you are planning then OK. Your insurance will require that any towbar fitted must have a plate fitted to it stating the safe load it can carry plus the vehicle it fits...this is also a legal requirement. Having said that, I've never heard of being booked for using a homemade towbar and there are some dodgy ones around.

By the looks of it, the towbar section goes up from under the car and that long plate actually fits inside the boot. As said, there are dimples in the body where you need to drill the holes, but don't drill them, they are also slightly off the mark. Fit the towbar section up to the car and drill the holes from the bottom through the towbar into the boot. Then bolt the plate inside the boot to the holes you have drilled, then drill through the plate holes from the inside of the boot.
Thanks for all your advice guys, i installed the towbar a couple of days ago, all the holes lined up perfectly, no need for drilling as there were only rubber grommets. I'll only be towing a tradie trailer. I took the trailer down to a trailer repair shop to look at getting two of the hinges fixed. The guy said that those towbars are decent. Its rated to 1200kg SWL, so remember, thats actually only 60% of its capability.
